Derrick W. Shindler, MD

Dr. Derrick ShindlerDr. Derrick Shindler is a board certified ophthalmologist who joined Midshore Eye in 2005.  He received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Dartmouth College and an additional Bachelors in Engineering degree from the Thayer School of Engineering. After working as an electrical engineer for 2 years, Dr. Shindler attended Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. After a medical internship year at Lankenau Hospital, he began his 3 year ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital. Wills Eye Hospital is home to one of the most respected ophthalmology residency programs in the country and is consistently ranked in the top 3 nationwide.

Dr. Shindler practices comprehensive ophthalmology. Common surgeries include cataract surgery, routine as well as complex. He offers traditional intra-ocular lenses in addition to toric and multi-focal IOLs. Other common procedures include glaucoma and retinal laser.

Dr. Shindler is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the Wills Eye Society.

When not at the office, Dr. Shindler's favorite pastime is to be skiing with his two sons. Other activities include hunting, fishing, golf, and cooking.
